The trip in one word:
EMOTIONAL
"We also have a theme around this part of the Canada series. Collecting special aircraft!"
Ainngai dear readers and hello,
for some more pictures around the Canada trip.
We are in Hay River, in Canada´s Northern Territories at the south shore of the Great Slave Lake right now.
Ready to fly again today, this way:
Thanx once more to this great tool:

An early start, what should I say, nothing really new to me!. A reliable local taxi steered by an elder woman shuttled us for the airport.
And there is no one to be seen beside us, good for some pictures
Such a number of different languages and just for the case you need a real pilot´s outfit, belonging to Buffalo Airways, of course
The up-to-date flat screen board shows the massive flights in and out of Hay River
It seems First Air is expecting something larger!
Take care here, it´s a true story and this airport is named by Merlyn Carter, a local pioneer pilot killed not that long ago by one of these sometimes not so nice locals, a brown bear.
What about this beauty in the early morning light?
And it sounds so good.
Who needs a lounge with this kind of music?
A relaxed welcome again by the Buffalo staff,
leaving the bags and soon thereafter boarding started the very same style, relaxed self service as it is here for C-GWIR like yesterday.
Leg no. 2 on type and also this machine. This plane is so individual, there is simply no name needed!
Speeding up the engine and heading for the runway
Leaving "Katlodehe Miffinga" or also "Hay River/Merlyn Carter Airport".
07.25 am, once again prior to scheduled departure, 45 minutes in the air by "Buffalo" and 14 cloudy degrees from the 1829 meters runway "Three-Two"
The fare is again 115.00 Euro´s and the load is 100%. Every available seat is taken.
There are also more potential pax waiting in line to buy a ticket, just for the case that someone booked doesn´t show up.
But no chance, they had to wait for the next day.
Some cabin details and we are ready to go
Crew is the very same like yesterday.
On the run
A smart lift off with the clean engine right hand side
Heading over water, the Great Slave Lake, in northern direction
The first row for us, of course, just for something more special
In the bright early morning sun
Just to notice, some oil is leaking from the right hand engine
Just a little bit more oil to see
Ah, yes, these wing looks so classic
The safety card and the magazine, just for the unlikely case that you need some more entertainment beside the view out of the window and the engine noise
Service and good to see the left hand prop is working
Always these rain showers
Land in sight and the right hand engine leaks some oil
Low level cruising again today
We should avoid those clouds
Big black thunderstorm clouds
Light in the distance
I feels good to see the sun again between the clouds
Really strange looking clouds
Not that far from Yellowknife and the weather turns for the better again
And finals for "Yellowknife Airport" or also "Som-ba Kay Miffinga"
Parallel to the runway
The final curve for the 1524 meters runway "One-Zero"
And back at home
08.10 am, five minutes ahead to schedule, 14 partly cloudy degrees.
No bye-bye right now this time.
There is a flight to catch in the afternoon for Edmonton scheduled on, hopefully, one more classic 732, but First Air this time.
And what should we do with the remaining time?
Some more chat and feel like at home, do as much pictures as you like and ask the staff if there is a question!
So let me show you just a little bit more Buffalo style action
The Lookheed Electra is a former Atlantic Airways machine and joined Buffalo not that long ago
The Curtiss C-46 Commando is on the run
Powering for the runway and believe me, it was noisy, lovely noisy!
Now I know how to use the pickup next time!
More interesting equipment all around
Any Ice Pilots here?
Four engines on the DC!
Just ready to go
These props looking like so special
Time to say goodbye now to the Buffalo folks and back for the terminal for another special event.
Give me a Dash-7 or should I better take the Hercules?
Noisy?. Oh, yes, it is!
Ready to go
First air to lift off
The polar fox looks like also nice
Firing down the runway, noisy, oh yes!
The Summit guy´s have a problem. This is a mining charter, pax boarded and disembarked after a long engine run on stand again
Well, lucky us, the rain started perfectly when we reached the terminal after the Buffalo visit.
Time now to play the "What about this airline and plane game"
Summit or not?
North Wright Air sounds also special
Now, that´s an easy catch
And is it noisy, maybe?
Just for a view around the terminal after the rain
And what´s this?
Give me a Tindi every day!
Ready for an intercontinental A.net meeting?.
Colleague Ryan h. from Adelaide, Southern Australia is also on a Canada trip und just by coincidence it looks like that there is a chance for a short Tripreporter style meeting here at Yellowknife airport. He is arriving on the Westjet plane.
R. great to meet you so far abroad
Canadian North, sorry not today, First Air it should be and what about Summit Air?
Summit still on stand and there is something coming in, just on the runway
The Curtiss Commando and just to let you know, it was superb noisy!
On taxi for the Buffalo apron
Followed by these small Tindi plane
More interesting movements to follow
Summit and one more Canadian North classic
Everything ok by First Air and the 5.15 pm for Edmonton so far?
Well, so far.
We tried to check-in as soon as we are back at the airport, but the nice middle aged woman told us that check-in is not yet open. We should wait and come back later, but everything is ok and she will prepare the papers for us.
Nice service here, isn´t it?.
And that´s also what the screen told us.
Back again at the First Air counter after the short meeting and some pictures, where there are some not that amused looking people standing around.
What´s going on?.
And where the nice woman takes us to the side of the desk
and further to a small office. Where she´s on the phone and now, slowly, I know what´s going on here.
Despite the screen shows everything ok,
the flight is late, not yet cancelled, but it seems possible that it will be finally cancelled later on.
I´ve overheard talking at the counter to other pax that they should wait for further informations and it is not yet possible to check-in for the flight right now.
Rebookings for tomorrow´s flights are offered.
But well, she promised that everything is ok, handed us a 30.00 Dollar voucher for something to eat, what the other pax also received and the secret phone call was with the Canadian North station manager to secure us two of the very few remaining seats on the 5.00 pm service, especially for us!. And that´s where we go silently to leave the bags right now!.
Bye now till the next part,
the TRIPREPORTER
