You step out of the South Terminal, walk just a couple of meters and you are at "Vancouver International Airport´s Richmond Seaplane Terminal".
Ok, tough job to land on water without a seaplane, isn´t it?
Harbour Air itself secures the ticket details.
The fare is 55.00 Euro´s and as simple as it is, exchange you´re bag with a plastic boarding card!
Such a special place it is
And this is not a one-plane-per-day place. Really interesting to follow the action out there
Separate terminals for the different operators
Speeding up and yes, I like these kind of engine noise!
Tofino, well, who knows!
On finals
The heli to sub if something turns wrong!
Let´s go for a view to the screen. Impressive, isn´t it?
Lounge like service and ready for boarding now from gate, well, one for all!
That´s the one to go.
No notice about the plane type on the confirmation, but C-FHAD is a DHC3 Turbine Otter without an individual name.
As easy as it should be, leg no. 1 on type
Talking about oldies, this one is built in 1956 and spend some time in the States till it joins Harbour Air.
And the company is with more than 50 examples the worlds largest all seaplane operator.
There are no incidents to report and boarding right now
Where to store the bags?.
What about inside the float?. It might be just a little bit wet, but a plastic envelope helps!
Me and the exit seat where the legroom is not bad to say the least, thanx to late boarding!.
Last row window, of course
For sure interesting equipment around here
Bye now and heading for the, well, runway!.
1.10 pm and this is ontime, 20 minutes by "Harbour Express". The load is close to 100%.
22 sunny degrees right now.
There is no FO or FA on this services.
The captain is a relaxed middle aged guy. The safety demo is done per iPad, also interesting. No service, no route info,
flightlevel is as high as 1000 feet
Taxi or whatever you call it this way!
Well used to say the least
Speeding up
And lift off
Low and slow with the heavy load
Above the bay
And the really well used cabin
Yes, there are some nice views en route
On the way for Nanaimo. Where?.
Nanaimo, come on, do you really don´t know this place?
Cruise or approach, who knows?. Low level it is definitely!
Ferry traffic also on the way
Close to our target, at least for now
The forest and the shoreline
What should I say?. The weather helps definitely to enjoy this scenic flight!
Turning for finals
With just some more timber deposits
Close to, well, touchdown
Back on earth, also when it´s water this time!
Taxi at 1.30 pm, ontime, 23 sunny degrees
at "Nanaimo Harbour Water Airport"
Under the wing, you know
And where are the bags?
Open the mysterious compartment
And bye now to Harbour Air, at least for today!
For sure a good idea!
Have you ever done a connecting flight via Nanaimo?.
Yes, we can, sorry, we do!.
But we should go to Vancouver today?.
Stay tuned.
