Well, there is nevertheless a good layover time here in Doha and that means, after I swam to the terminal, a couple of minutes
to wait right behind the terminal entrance. Most of the people passed security, the queue calms down and well ontime prior to the next load of arriving pax I´ve joined the transfer security queue and are good to go in a couple of minutes only.
And there is also something called "The Oryx Lounge" to check here
Certainly the place to spend the time till the next flight
and I´am not alone here with a good number of nightflights
Well and I´am also not alone when my flight calls at gate 09 for boarding from the groundfloor. Better to go by ship again?
Well, this is A7-AHI, another one from the planes-without-names fleet. The A320 like on schedule, leg no. 107 on type and a new entry to the log.
Since 12.07.2011 with Qatar, 31 examples are in the fleet.
Incidents?. Not here!
Nightly boarding, no, wait, early morning boarding this way
04.30 am, perfectly ontime, leaving the "Doha International Airport
مطار الدوحة الدولي" for 04. 20 hours on the "Qatari" from the same runway "One-Five" like arrivals.
22 degrees and wet after rain.
The guy at the left hand seat, the "طيار", introduced himself in a relaxed style as "Mike", english good to notice as native language. A well experienced whitehaired guy with the nice welcome on the ground and once again during the early approach later on.
Routing is via Dubai-Fujairah-Delhi at maximum 35000 feet.
Sure, tell me the story about the way to go
The sun is coming up and the legroom is ok here with
the mixed red blue fabric seats. It´s clean so far.
The load is 100%, no open seat to spot, locals and westerners well mixed with me in 30F. The last row window and also here, all seats are taken
Cabin crew is one younger male, nice and
four women, three asian, one large, cute, nice,
one younger and ok, one middle aged, not that tall, really nice and one middle eastern, not that large, not that slim,
short black hair, glasses, well, really nice.
The safety card and the yellow one directly behind the wing
Entertainment and the seat en detail
Something to eat above Pakistan.
Free drinks are served several times inflight
Well, the outdoor entertainment is more to my choice this time!
Some curves and for the mountains this way
Clouds or mountains in the distance while turning for the final approach direction to "Tribhuvan International Airport
त्रिभुवन अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय विमानस्थल"
Lot´s of rivers and greenery down there
Well, some mountains showing up
And we are coming closer
A thousand of mountains around here
And the snowy peaks in the distance
Good to do this during daylight, isn´t it?
Well, the houses coming closer, really close, spotters paradise, so it seems
And somewhere down there should be a runway, also for larger planes
But not here, so it seems
And I hope, "Mike" knows the way
Finally down for the Kathmandu valley
Hopping above the last hills
The runway in the middle of a well populated area
Not a problem in Nepal, no way!
And down we are at the 3050 meters runway "Zero-Two".
It´s 11.35 am, five minutes after schedule, 17 degrees and clear, blue sky, perfect
Taxi with the regional apron in the distance
Nepal Airlines parked
And just by surprise here, too
Mountains all around, it looks really like Nepal
A Dornier 228 on taxi for the domestic ramp
Another one on the go
Jetstreams are also on offer here
Not a single cloud to see at all, perfect
For the garage, sorry, the terminal building
And the immigration experience Nepali style.
Lucky me again, ok, not everytime, but this time!.
No other arrival right now.
An airport official directing people to different counters.
I show him my homeprinted transit visa request, passport photo and oubound ticket.
Strange, this kind of visa is even not mentioned on Germany´s "Auswärtiges Amt" homepage and allows you to stay 24 hours at 5.00 US-Dollars only.
He walked with me to a separate counter.
The officer is at first not really sure, if I´am the standard transit visa client, ok, I´am definitely not the standard client, no. Dollars on the counter and all right he writes a paper, stamped my passport and welcomed me to Nepal after less than 10 minutes at all!.
Well collecting some nepalese rupees on the way out and the only thing to do now is to wait for the pick up.
The guy´s are surprised to see me waiting and apologized for several times. Well, this is not the first time, lucky me, you know!.
So onwards for Shambaling, part of a Tibetian monastery and managed by Tibetian people located in Boudha, close to the Boudhanath Stupa, a UNESCO world heritage site and one of the largest Buddhist Stupa´s around the world.
Also well known as the largest Tibetian population outside of Tibet.
And after a couple of minutes only on the chaotic Nepalesi streets and a warm welcome at the calm oasis of the monastery I´am really in Tibet, wait Nepal!
And just for the case no one closes the door here!
Traditional it is
But also comfortable enough
Do not miss a single second, there is time enough to sleep on the plane!.
The place where the locals doing the dishes and wash their clothes, too. Garlic anyone, just in case to drive away some evil spirits?.
Herbs and the perfect local transport equipment
Another tibetian monastery close to the Stupa
It´s absolutely necessary to walk around the Stupa to free your mind, but clockwise only, never ever in the other direction, the monks told me and this is closely watched from above
Yes, this is Tibet
Spinning the prayer wheels, clockwise, I told you
It feels so different than everything else to be here
Everything what the Tibetian needs these days
And believe me there are such a number of nice ever smiling people around also with the hard real life these days
For another walk around, clockwise, you know!
The big one
The small garden
And the guys working the Stupa all the time
I told you, this is Tibet
It feels so special
Back for Shambaling now, just to freshen up and
there is more to see like this:
And believe me, it´s a fantastic experience with clear blue sky around when the plane doing circle after circle, higher and higher in the Kathmandu valley with some of the highest mountain peaks of the world around. But that´s another story:
And also this time, here are the conclusions:
1.)LHCityline STR-MUC: A short and calm ride.
2.)Qatar MUC-DOH: An comfy evening Qatar made.
3.)Qatar DOH-KTM: Amazing views, worth to have the window seat.
अलविदा अब लागि,
alavidā aba lāgi,
take care.
